On Thursday, Oct. 1, the PebbleCreek Republican Club held its monthly meeting at the outdoor Bullard Wash Amphitheater. It was a perfect sunny afternoon for the event. Sue Harrison, vice president, welcomed our members and thanked both Steve Jensen for setting up the sound system and the volunteers who helped with logistics and the sale of patriotic items. Volunteers included Mary McMahon, Tom and Judy Gallob, Indy Rebhun, Jeff Specter, Peter and Linda Kesselman, and Kirk Harrison.

After a prayer for our country, President Trump, and other leaders, Arizona Senator for LD13 Sine Kerr led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance of the United States. Sue Harrison then introduced Larry Schweikart. Larry is a prominent and notable author and historian. He spoke at a PebbleCreek Republican Club meeting last year about his best-selling book Reagan: The American President. Due to popular demand, he was invited back to speak to the membership about “The Road to The White House.”

Larry gave his insight and provided information about the November election and possible results. He spoke about the key states and highlighted the indicators that will influence the Presidential, Senate, and House elections. He took questions from our members and conducted a lively discussion. Larry stayed after for those who wanted to purchase his books and have them signed.

Larry Schweikart was born into a cattle ranching family in Arizona. He attended Arizona State University. After graduation, Larry went on the road as a drummer in a rock band. His band opened for Steppenwolf, the James Gang, and Mother’s Finest and drew the attention of Billboard Magazine. However, after a few years of drumming and traveling, Schweikart decided that he wanted a more intellectual pursuit and took a U.S. history course in summer school. It was then that he decided he wanted to be a history professor. Larry earned a master’s degree from ASU and Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

The PebbleCreek Republican Club remains active during the shutdown of our community facilities. Events, including “Meet the Candidates,” are held on Zoom; on Saturday mornings members gather for flag waving on McDowell and PebbleCreek Parkway; a prayer meeting is held every Monday at a member’s home; members are hanging door hangers in nearby neighborhoods; several members are making phone calls for President Trump and Senator McSally; some members are helping staff the Trump Victory Office; a patriotic golf cart parade is planned; and a five-week lecture series with ASU Professor Nick (Nicholas Damask Ph.D.) started in mid-October.

The PebbleCreek Republican Club provides an environment for Republican fellowship and discussion and to serve as an educational forum for Republican ideas and principles. Due to gathering restrictions in PebbleCreek’s facilities, monthly meetings that are usually held in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom are on hold. If you are interested in joining the club, contact Linda Kesselman, membership chair, at [email protected]. You can also visit www.pebblecreekrepublicanclub.com for information about the club.
