“Mr. Gorbachev open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”—Ronald Reagan
The above quote was uttered by President Ronald Reagan at his address at the Brandenburg Gate on June 12, 1987. Standing with the President as he spoke those famous words, against the advice of his speech writers, was Mr. Steve Chealander, Military and Ceremonial Aide to President Ronald Reagan. The trip was personal for Steve as his father and mother were invited to the event by President Reagan to commemorate his dad’s participation in the airlift of Berlin after World War II.
The PebbleCreek Republican Club (PCRC) was honored to have Mr. Chealander share many of his memories and experiences at the April PCRC get-together BBQ on April 4. Over 90 members of the club and their guests were privileged to hear Mr. Chealander’s anecdotes and interesting glimpses into Ronal Reagan’s life. Steve shared how Reagan’s wit, humor, and quiet yet steely determination, made him one of America’s best and favorite presidents. Not only did those in attendance hear about personal moments with “Reagan, the Man of the People,” but many inspirational stories. After several interesting questions from the audience, many individuals stayed after the presentation to take a photo with Steve. The PCRC thanked Chealander for his many years of service to our country and for providing a truly inspiring afternoon!
