On April 17, the PebbleCreek Republican Club held a membership meeting at the Bullard Wash Amphitheater. Over 100 members attended to hear Dr. Kelli Ward, Republican Party of Arizona chairwoman, address the crowd. The meeting was called to order by club president, Sue Harrison. Membership chair, Linda Kesselman, led the club prayer, followed by Councilman Joe Pizzillo leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
Guest speaker Dr. Kelli Ward spoke about the Maricopa County audit scheduled to begin in late April at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum. She spoke about the companies that will conduct the audit, procedures and security, and other information on how the audit will be conducted. The Party’s chairwoman spoke about re-districting in Arizona and the effect it will have on Republicans in our state. Dr. Ward talked about the importance of recruiting candidates to run for office in federal, state, and local elections.
Following Dr. Ward, Arizona State Representative Tim Dunn spoke about several topics. Representative Dunn focused on an Arizona House bill that addresses the Second Amendment, the sports wagering bill/gaming bill that was signed into law recently, and the parental rights/education bill. He gave a detailed update on the Arizona border. Attendees asked many questions about solutions to address the situation. Tim Dunn also spoke about the COVID liability reform/protection bill that was recently signed into law.
Senator Sine Kerr also discussed the upcoming audit. She told members how they could sign up to volunteer as observers, what is required, and the time commitment. Senator Sine spoke about bills, including election integrity, tax reform, and answered questions about vaccine passports.
Maricopa County Republican Chairwoman Mickie Niland spoke about the goals for our county and provided information about precinct committeemen and captains.
Legislative District 13 Chair Sandra Dowling announced that the LD13 Executive Board met in February to choose the outstanding Precinct Committeemen for 2020. In the past, these committeemen were presented with the Lincoln Award at the annual dinner. Due to COVID, some recipients received the awards at this meeting. This year, there were four Lincoln Awards. Three are PebbleCreek Precinct Committeemen: Cristina Junge, Bella Williams, and Sue Harrison. Sue Harrison has been nominated for the Lincoln Lifetime Award from LD13. Others have been nominated from all around Maricopa County. The award will be presented at a large gathering when COVID restrictions are lifted.
