Many of us are aware of the major animal rescue shelters in the Phoenix area such as The Arizona Humane Society and the Sun Valley Animal Shelter. These organizations take in, house, rehabilitate and have adopted many thousands of dogs and cats who otherwise would be lost or would die in our desert environment.
Unknown to us for the most part, and yet vitally important for our local animals’ welfare, are the many small and usually unheralded rescues such as Pammy’s 2nd Chance Rescue.
Pammy’s 2nd Chance Rescue is a no kill, not for profit 501(c)3 foster based rescue located in Tolleson and founded in 2012 by Pam and Glen Boren. Their focus is taking from high kill shelters the most at risk dogs, never discriminating by breed. Many of their dogs also come from situations of neglect and abuse. They are all then rehabilitated and given a second chance at life. The Pet Companions Club is indebted to Pammy’s 2nd Chance Rescue for, on occasion, accepting rescues from us when no other shelter was available.
Pammy’s rescue depends on foster families as well as her entire home being set up for the sheltering and caring of rescued dogs and cats. To date over 300 dogs and countless cats have found forever homes.
Pam Boren, rescue founder and CEO, has been awarded the President’s Service Award from the Corporation for National & Community Service, an honor which included a letter from President Obama.
All PebbleCreek residents are invited to hear the Pammy’s 2nd Chance Rescue guest speaker at our Wednesday, October 1, general meeting of The Pet Companions Club of PebbleCreek. We will meet at 3:00 p.m. in Room 100 of the Eagle’s Nest Activities Center. There is no charge.
As always, a box will be available for donations of such pet related items as pet toys, pet food (check expiration dates), pet beds, crates, blankets, towels, etc. Those items not used for our own PebbleCreek rescues will be donated to Pammy’s 2nd Chance Rescue.
