The Breast Cancer Discussion Group is pleased to have Kitty Shildt, registered dietician, speak at our Feb. 22 meeting from 10 a.m. to noon. She will be sharing with us many of the up-to-date nutritional issues that impact our breast cancer journey. Her husband, Dr. Rich Shildt, oncologist, will also be with us to answer any questions or concerns you may have. This is a great opportunity for those recently diagnosed or currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer to ask questions and learn from others who are also going through breast cancer. The purpose of our group is to provide support to residents through the sharing of common experiences and knowledge, and to let you know you are not alone. We also encourage those of you who are longtime survivors to attend our meetings, as sharing your experience is very helpful to those just starting their breast cancer journey.
One of the challenges our group faces is reaching residents before treatment. We have a wonderful pillow, provided by the PebbleCreek Sewing Club, which provides comfort while recovering from surgery. We also have access to the best resources to answer questions about breast cancer. It is so important that you get the right information, as it is sometimes very misleading to look at the internet.
We try to keep our meetings upbeat and we do laugh a lot, as laughter is healing. We meet from 10 a.m. to noon. At the conclusion of each meeting, we go to lunch at Eagle’s Nest and get to know each other better. We hope you will join us!
If you want to chat, receive a pillow or want to know the location of the meeting, please call Jennifer Smith, our president and facilitator, at 602-618-1203 or [email protected]. Come join us on Feb. 22!
