Raising the roof on the Renaissance Theater

Susan Knox Wilson

The walls are up, the roof is on and the Renaissance Theatre backstage expansion and interior remodel continues to go according to plan. “We’ve been very lucky,” confided Ken Sergio, PebbleCreek Golf Resort Facilities Manager. “The excavation went like clockwork and we didn’t run into any old gold mines or dinosaur bones that would have shut us down. We’ve passed all inspections and are looking forward to finishing construction and transitioning into the interior work soon.”

In preparation for renovating the interior of the theater, all the old seats have been removed and the new seats ordered, the old carpeting is out and new carpeting has been ordered and the old curtains are down and the new ones have arrived. All the sound equipment has been removed (and is currently in storage). And, if you’ve been following the news about the Renaissance renovation, you know the sound booth is being reconfigured so that the seats directly in front of it in row 10 will now have the same legroom as every other seat in the house!

Here are highlights of the expansion/renovation project for August:

August 1 Backstage drywall

August 4 Expansion stucco

August 10 Backstage carpentry trims

August 11 Paint interior

August 15-17 Install above grid: HVAC; sprinkler/alarm; electrical

August 18-19 Install grid

August 24 Grid inspection

August 24-30 Exterior concrete

The project to expand the Renaissance Theatre’s backstage area is a collaboration of the HOA, the Performing Arts Council (PAC) and a significant financial contribution by Ed Robson — along with donations from PAC patrons totaling more than $120,000 for the “Build the Backstage” fund, with $75,000 going toward the actual building and the remaining funds to be used to finish the backstage interior areas.
