With June being Pride month, PebbleCreek resident Jo Comstock is pleased to report a second successful year of offering rainbow wristbands in exchange for donations to support local LGBTQ+ youth foundation One-n-Ten.
After first learning of the wristbands in 2024, Jo and her friend and neighbor, Chris Stelplugh, shared the opportunity with fellow PebbleCreek residents via social media, email, the PebbleCreek E-group, and by talking it up on the pickleball courts. With just a $5 minimum commitment required, the result was $500 dollars of proceeds going to the Phoenix One-n-Ten Foundation, which works to enhance the lives of LGBTQ+ youth and young adults ages 11-24, through programs that promote self-expression, self-acceptance, leadership development, and healthy life choices. With impressive response so far in 2025, Jo’s expectation is that proceeds will surpass last year’s total.
Aside from helping support One-n-Ten, Jo explained that “the wristbands demonstrate support, love, and respect for our family members, friends, and neighbors in the LGBTQ community.” Recognizing Jo’s admirable work as an ally to the community, PebbleCreek’s own LGBTQ Club donated in support of Joe’s and Chris’ contributions to One-n-Ten.
With 90+ members, the PebbleCreek LGBTQ Club, established in 2024, offers residents a community resource right in their neighborhood. The club aims to enhance friendships and provide opportunities to participate in social and educational activities, including those focusing on LGBTQ history, celebrations, and interests.
