Phoenix Arizona’s popular morning TV show on channel 3 (KTVK), Good Morning Arizona wanted to learn a bit about pickleball.
So on August 18 the station sent Photo-Journalist Victor Ochoa and popular TV Reporter Kylee Cruz to our 20 courts to learn about our favorite sport.
Four segments were shot: live ones for the 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. shows and tapes for the 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. broadcasts. Wball.
Club members in action were filmed and then Kylee tried to learn a bit about the game from Officer at Large Bob Oswald.
Bob walked her through the serve with the ball having to be hit underhand to the cross court and alsned that pickleball is composed of elements of tennis, ping-pong and badminton.
Kylee had not participated much in sports, saying, “I’m not very good,” as she was heckled from the studio by the show’s hosts as footage of her showed her efforts; “You get an A for effort but not so great for form.” and “Keep your day job.” Upbeat background music from the studio accompanied Kylee’s efforts.
All that aside, everyone had a great time and Kylee concluded with, “You guys are a lively group of people,” and said she would return for lessons.
We hope to see her back.
