Pickleball Club Happenings

Court Resurfacing

As part of the normal maintenance cycle, the pickleball court resurfacing will begin the first part of July. The plan is to close off only one section (courts 1-8, 9-12, and 13-20) at a time. As courts close, round robin play will be suspended so that all usable courts will be available for either drop-in or open play until resurfacing is complete.

Improvements Around the Courts

The pickleball club is very pleased that new concrete will be poured to replace the rock between the Ramada and court 1. We can’t wait for this improvement. Not only will this new concrete be a nice walkway, it will also provide additional seating to watch some great pickleball, especially during tournaments where Court 1 is one of our championship courts. New concrete will also be poured in the back of Courts 17-20 to replace the current soil.

Spring Fling and Spring Cleaning

Spring Fling and spring cleaning pickleball equipment was another great event! Thank you to Arleen King and Wendy Langhals for hosting the fun and successful Spring Fling. The weather was great, and the food and music were really enjoyed by all. Steve Jensen brought his sound system, and Indy Rebhum provided a wonderful playlist of fabulous songs. Again, we were very fortunate to have a large number of volunteers who had everything set up and ready to go at 7 a.m. They also helped serve and clean up after we were all finished. Thank you to all!

Thanks to the work of Kathryn Villeneuve, we collected gently used and some almost-new paddles and nets to distribute to our local high schools. Schools throughout the nation are starting to teach or reintroduce pickleball as part of the physical education curriculum. We were also able to provide equipment to a local church that wanted to offer pickleball for families to learn.

Our next social will be the School Supply Drive. It will be held this summer on July 23. This social will focus on school supplies for Eliseo Felix Elementary. Last year our members were their usual generous selves, and even those who were gone during the summer sent money to help in this very important school drive. Stay tuned for more information.
