More than 150 PebbleCreek Pickleball Club members showed up for the January 24 Chili Tasting Social (Get Chili in January).
The big winner was the Agua Fria Food Bank. Club members donated hundreds of cans of food to this worthy organization.
Beginning at 10:30 a.m. the crock pots were set up and 15 delicious chilies were being tasted.
Members in a blind vote selected their tastiest chili.
Entering the competition were Hilary Coltman, Jill Bushman, Renee DeLassus, Brenda Michaels, Susie Nee, Bill Raymond, Pam Paliwoda, Linda Vaughn, Sandy Crabtree, Jill Miller, Carol Taylor, Suzanne Rambach, Gordon Cooper, Ken Prom and Karen Bush.
Medalists of the Chili Cook-off were
1. Renee DeLassus, Dinkin Good Chili
2. Ken Prom, Authentic Southern Hospitality Chili
3. Karen Bush, Chili on Court
Winning the gold for the cleverest name, Carol Taylor’s Pixie’s Lip Smack’n Rear Bust’n Chili; classic name.
During this up beat event, pickleballers enjoyed sandwiches and wraps, sports drinks and other food items. There was an unending amount of food.
Members competed in drop-in competition and shared paddle round robins.
It was a grand festival on a warm day and members look forward to next year’s event.
A Valentine Social was held February 14.
Upcoming events include a March 15 Mixed Four Win Tournament; March 25 and 26 the club Doubles Championships and on April 8 the annual Health Faire.
Other news is that the PebbleCreek Pickleball Club third annual Concert will be October 25. Last year’s event attracted more than 450 members.
