Pet of the Month: Meet Riddick!

Hi neighbors! In April 2024, Sue Ann Olsavicky (our resident cat whisperer) and mom (Mary O’Neill) rescued me and my three sisters from a roof here in PebbleCreek when we were only 4 weeks old. We were hungry and walked right down the roof to the smell of delicious cat food.

We all lived for the first month with mom, who named us after strong survivor characters from sci-fi movies. She figured we deserved strong names since we managed to survive as tiny kittens on a roof without falling off or getting eaten.

I quickly became much larger than my sisters, with lots of personality. But we were all very sick for a while, and it took us a long time to get healthy.

After that first month, mom had to leave to take care of her mom, so we all moved to Sue Ann’s house. Sue Ann raised us for the next six months, and we all got healthy. My sisters all got adopted (one still lives here in PebbleCreek), but nobody picked me even though I am the handsomest and sweetest boy. So, when mom came back to PebbleCreek she adopted me. Yay! Now I have the best of both worlds as Sue Ann comes to visit me whenever she and mom are rescuing other cats and kittens.

I’m working on becoming friends with mom’s other cat, Bubba. In human terms, he’s in his 70s and I’m a teenager, so he’s having to be patient with my boundless energy and antics. I love to do zoomies around the house, leaping from cat tree to furniture like a flying squirrel. I like to be up high, and I like to play fetch and kitty soccer with my toys. I’m very vocal and I chirp a lot at both mom and Bubba. I know my name, and I come running or chirp whenever mom calls me; even if I’m busy watching quail. I like to steal people’s food when mom’s back is turned, especially chicken and avocado, which I take from mom’s salads. My favorite hiding spot is inside of mom’s reclining sofas, where she can’t find me. LOL! But Mom just had coyote-proof screens installed around her patio, so now I get to spend lots of supervised time out there watching birds and it is my favorite place!
