It was a day like any other day, June 19, 2014, warm and quiet, when I decided to look at the PebbleCreek emails. Just curious! And there it was, “looking for a cat sitter.” Timing is everything. I had a Papillion with “attitude.” Since my husband had passed in May of 2013, Hannah treated me horribly. I warned her, if her attitude didn’t improve, I was going to get a cat. Well, she basically said, “go ahead.” And there it was a chance to see if I could love a cat.
Well, Socks was a gorgeous four or five year old butterscotch colored cat with white socks with a huge fur coat. He was a rescue cat and once I got him to sit, he has never left my home. The Masters were gracious and said they needed to travel and wanted him in a good home. Being very bold for a new cat owner, I took Socks for a “lion” cut. He gets one twice a year. What is his favorite thing? Posing! He sits many different places and just poses.
Time passes. I went back to the PebbleCreek email. Now I had to leave for a weekend and I ran an ad for a sitter. Lo and behold, there enters a gal who has become a wonderful friend, “Cat Shirley,” and she says “Socks needs a companion.” Off we go to various rescue facilities and we find, with Shirley’s guidance, an eight week old tabby that had just given birth to a litter of four and was ready for adoption. Well, I learned a lot about the incredible facility and the process to take Missy home.
Introducing female Missy to handsome Socks has been a non-ending show. They play, wrestle and share one food and water dish as well as one litter box. Missy plays and hides her toys. They sit next to the computer when I work. They follow me everywhere I go. They have filled my life with such companionship. I joined the Pet Companions Club. Thank you, PebbleCreek email.
