I have been truly blessed to have a wonderful dog, Blackster, in my life for 14 years. He is mostly a lab but has a longer shepherd nose and curly hair on his back. He has beautiful white teeth. As his name suggests, he is all black.
He is failing as his breed tends to do with hip dysplasia and weak back legs. I know that any day now I will go out to take him for his 7:00 a.m. walk and he will not be able to stand up. As it is now, he hops on both back legs until we get to the garage and then he begins to walk normally. When it is his time to leave me, I hope that he passes peacefully in his sleep.
Blackster is handsome. Every day people tell me what a beautiful dog he is or what an incredible black shiny coat. He is a chick magnet. Thanks to him, a lady even gave me a bottle of wine. I take him on four daily constitutionals, including one in my two seat car to the dog park in Tuscany. He seems to love going there to watch the other dogs, but he is not friendly. I would say that he has acquaintances.
Blackster has lived with me in Arizona, Wyoming, Vermont and Massachusetts. He has been across country four times and is a great traveler.
Blackster has only one job here in Arizona and that is to drive off the pigeons that frequent my spa. Most of the time he sleeps through all the commotion. I have threatened to fire him for laziness. He does, however, have an incredible talent for telling time.
We dog owners love our pets. They fill us with joy and enrich our daily lives. Blackster is special.
Note: Blackster crossed the Rainbow Bridge on July 15, 2017.
