Rascal is a survivor
Kathryn Young
Rascal moved to PebbleCreek from Colorado and loves his life in Arizona. He was tired of the harsh winters and is the only one in the family that relishes the summer heat here. Rascal has made new friends at the dog park and loves running the perimeter of the backyard to make sure his family is safe.
Rascal is a true survivor. We are not exactly sure how old he is, but he has to be at least 11 ½ years old. He was found wandering New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina. Along with other homeless pets, he was shipped to Colorado to find a forever family. He was adopted by his father, Jerry. Jerry later found a mother, Kathy, for little Rascal when they married in 2011. It would be an understatement to say that Rascal has found a cushy life. How many dogs get to winter in Arizona and summer in the mountains of Colorado?
Rascal’s true survivor skills are exhibited when he meets a kind person. If that person offers a treat, Rascal would hop in their car in a minute. He does, however, love his family.
Rascal’s only fear is that of things flying overhead. The Luke jets and big birds are particularly scary. When this happens, it is quickly assuaged by Mom or Dad picking him up for a close hug, much like a baby. The ears, very evident in his picture, are capable of hearing a gnat in Kansas so he often hears the jets long before his parents.
Rascal deserves to be Pet of the Month because of his ability to use his survivor skills to enjoy a life that rivals any pet living in Hollywood. Survivorship is an underrated skill that serves humans well also.
