Charlie and the Eagle

Hi, fellow Creekers! I originally introduced myself to you two years ago. My name is Charlie Patrick-Evans and I am a 42 year old yellow naped Amazon parrot, AKA snowbird, from the Chicago area. Since I last visited with you my parents have unfortunately found a veterinarian who specializes in exotic pets. She said I am obese and has attempted to put me on a weight reduction diet. Can you imagine that? While I am not winning the battle of the bulging feathers, I am getting more exercise as my mother places me on the tile floor and makes me walk back to my house and climb back up: a task I have mastered quite well. I don’t always go directly home and have been known to sample the woodwork, hide under furniture and perch on the metal legs of the kitchen table. If I could only keep quiet, they would never find me.

Sometimes I do cooperate as you can see from the photo. Cannot believe my mother placed me in harm’s way! Also, I don’t know why the landscapers all stopped their work at Eagle’s Nest Clubhouse and smiled.

One thing that really gets me moving is when my mother works on her Kumihimo (Japanese braiding) project. It involves a wooden stool and lots of clicking sounds when the plastic bobbins hit one another. I found this so stimulating that I actually ran down my house and across the floor to get closer. My mother and dad were laughing so hard and filming me while I attempted to climb as high as I could to see what this was all about.

Sometimes my parents take me with them to visit friends here. I have become quite familiar with my Aunt Carol and Uncle Ray’s home and they don’t seem to mind that I walk through their carpeted living room to sneak up and beg while everyone is eating at the dining room table. I want to make certain they have the same food my mother placed in my food dish. I especially love sitting on the counter top of Uncle Ray’s bar in his patio. He even has a neon sign of a parrot he calls Charlie. I get to hang out with the boys, nibble on snacks and watch people swing long sticks at a little white ball and drive around in quiet little covered wagons. Wish their carts had big loud motors like Harleys. I love that sound!

I am a frequent visitor of a store they named after me here in Goodyear. I think it is called Charming Charlie’s. I love bling and get the girls who work there giggling when I try to reach out and touch all the shiny and sparkly items on the shelves. Boy would I like to get my beak on some of those! See you around PebbleCreek or in town.
