Marge Ellison,
The Pet Companions Club of PebbleCreek is pleased to have Joni Symonds from Arizona Adopt A Greyhound rescue as its speaker on Wednesday, April 5, 2017. We will meet in Room 100 of the Eagle’s Nest Activities Center at 3:00 p.m. All PebbleCreek residents, whether club members or not, are invited to attend this informative free program.
Joni Symonds, a long-time volunteer for Arizona Adopt A Greyhound, will discuss adopting retired racing greyhounds and their unique needs transitioning from a racing career to a life of leisure. She will be accompanied by her “girls,” Reza and Fancy.
Arizona Adopt A Greyhound (AAGI) is a 501(c) 3 non-profit all-volunteer organization founded in 1990 to find loving homes for retired greyhound racers. To date, over 5000 greyhounds have gone through AAGI’s program into their forever homes. A small staff of dedicated volunteers and foster families devote their time to placing hundreds of former racers each year into their retirement homes. When the dogs come into their program they are micro-chipped, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed and have their teeth cleaned. Most of their dogs spend some time in experienced foster homes where they can begin learning the rules of living in a home as a pet.
Greyhounds are very intelligent, even-tempered, friendly, self-reliant and usually good with older children. They adapt well to limited-space homes and do not require a large yard or an excessive amount of exercise. They are perfectly content with daily walks and a soft bed where they spend a large part of their time just relaxing.
As always, there will be a box available for pet donations such as: pet beds, pet toys, crates, cages, pet food (check expiration dates), towels, blankets (no sheets or pillowcases, please), leashes, collars, etc. All donations not used in our PebbleCreek rescues will be donated to other local animal rescue organizations.
