Copper was rescued Nov. 21, 2024, on 162nd Lane in Tuscany Falls. He was approximately 4 months old. A resident found him in her front yard, screaming non-stop. All of his claws were completely shredded, and one of his dew claws was torn out, leaving an infected hole in his paw that was completely encrusted with dirt. He was in pain and was so hungry and scared. He had obviously been someone’s pet as he had known love from people, and we believe he was abandoned.
Once rescued, the Pet Companions Club got him his shots, his neuter procedure, and treatment for his infected paw. He was a big cuddle bug and loved being picked up, held, and petted endlessly. His favorite toys were mice made from rabbit fur, of which he destroyed three. He was fostered by Mary O’Neill, the president of Pet Companions Club, until his adoption, and he was the sweetest, most loving kitty. He found his forever home in PebbleCreek and is now known as Jasper. His new parents report that he still loves being in his cat tree, still loves those toy mice, and is keeping them entertained.
Copper is a great example of why it is critical for homeowners to notify us if they see a stray cat. We were able to save him from being preyed upon by coyotes or becoming a feral cat with time. We ask all residents to understand that cats and kittens seen in our community do not belong to your neighbors who have let them outside. They are either abandoned and in need of rescue, or they are feral and need to be spayed or neutered to prevent them from adding to the population of cats. Cats can reproduce at only 6 months of age. A female cat can produce more than 100 kittens in her lifetime.
Copper is also an excellent example of why your tax-deductible donations to our club are vital. We need those donations to pay the veterinarian bills for our rescued cats and dogs. We have recently made it easier to donate to us by adding Zelle as an option. You can send us a donation through Zelle at [email protected], or send us a check by mail to The Pet Companions Club of PebbleCreek, PO Box 6106, Goodyear, AZ, 85338-0619.
