Your PebbleCreek Activities Team is pleased to announce that Larry Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers will appear on our stage at the Renaissance Theatre for four shows January 30 and 31, 2017. In the tradition that she has established since taking the post as Director of Activities in June of 2014, Traci Baker is thrilled to bring another premier musical act to PebbleCreek to open the year. With the Texas Tenors in 2015 and The Oak Ridge Boys in 2016, Traci hopes to continue bringing this level of talent to PebbleCreek for many years to come. The tickets for the four shows will go on sale this fall, with pricing and more details to be announced in June.
Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers have been dazzling audiences for more than 60 years. Over the years there have been countless awards, many, many concerts, national television shows and even a show at the White House.
It all began in Abilene, Texas, in 1955 when Larry was six, Steve was four and Rudy was two. In 1971 Larry auditioned for the legendary Imperials, Elvis’ backup group. He didn’t get the job, but he met Dottie West who was the opening act for the legendary Jimmy Dean, who would become one of Larry’s oldest and best friends. After a show in Las Vegas, Dottie’s words inspired Larry; he went home to Houston, wrote eight songs, sent them to Dottie and she sent him a plane ticket to Nashville. Through Dottie, Larry met Kris Kristofferson who became a champion on Gatlin’s talent as a writer and singer, helping him to get his first record contract. His first album, The Pilgrim, was released later that year; Johnny Cash wrote the liner notes and dubbed him “The Pilgrim,” what he called Larry until the day he died. While still in college, Steve and Rudy moved to Nashville in 1975 to sing backup with Tammy Wynette. A year later they joined their brother Larry, forming Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers.
By 1976 the Gatlin Brothers were in the fast lane with the chart-topping success of the Grammy Award-winning Broken Lady and hits including their signature song, All the Gold in California, Houston (Means I’m One Day Closer to You), I Don’t Wanna Cry, I Just Wish You Were Someone I Love, Statues Without Hearts, Love is Just a Game and Night Time Magic, this group was truly golden. In addition to being inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 1976, the trio was nominated for awards by the Country Music Association, the Academy of Country Music and the Music City News Awards, among others.
Be sure to keep January 30 and 31 open on your calendars and stay tuned for more details about how to secure your tickets to see the incredible Larry Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers right here in PebbleCreek.
