PebbleCreek Tennis Club Looking Toward a Great 2021!

Donna Gillen

Happy 2021 from PebbleCreek Tennis Club! We welcome the new year with great anticipation for a healthy and fun filled year. At the present time we, as a club, are focused on maintaining a safe environment by following the CDC guidelines and playing socially distant tennis during these beautiful winter days. After this past summer of heat, we are bundling up these past few weeks as we play the safest game during these times. Through it all, we have stayed warm on the courts as well as safe. Masks are required when not playing and after games; we quickly venture on (no socializing) to other destinations. We are committed to keeping each other safe while being able to play the game we love.

Speaking of social time, as soon as it is safe, our new director of tournaments, Aquine Jackson, will be scheduling in-house activities for all members. He has some new and exciting ideas for all club social activities. As members, our goal is to have a fun day of playing one another on the courts through foursome matches. The format is individual scoring while rotating partners. It’s always a good time for all participants and has been greatly missed this past year. As we become a safer community, this activity will once again be offered, as well as the luncheon afterwards, which is led by Joan Patchin, our social director. As always, there will be prizes given to the best scores, door prizes, and a raffle. Keep an eye out for the return of these events, as space is limited for both.

We do have a few activities that are recurring. On Monday and Wednesday at Eagle’s Nest, the ladies’ drop in tennis is in full swing. Times during the winter months are 9:30 to 11 a.m., courts 1 through 3. Contact Jeanne Sherlock at 460-261-1989 for info. To complement, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, there is men’s drop in tennis also at Eagle’s Nest courts from 8:30 to 10 a.m. If you are new to the tennis club, or even PebbleCreek, it is a great way to meet other tennis players and practice your skills in a neutral venue.

On Thursday nights, if you are a 3.5 level or above, we offer mixed doubles. The coordinator for this event is Marty McAllister, you can find her contact information on the website, pebblecreektennis.org. You must sign up to attend the event.

Other avenues for information can be found at the Tennis Cabana bulletin boards. There are two, one at Eagle’s Nest and one at Tuscany.

As we get through these times, let us keep a positive outlook and anticipate the days when we will all be cheering one another on, as we play the sport for all times, tennis. Until then, stay safe, be smart, and follow the CDC guidelines.
