The Singles Club held their monthly membership meeting on Sept. 12, which featured guest speaker Kathleen Molony, who is the head of Mutts on a Mission. This interesting new program in PebbleCreek is a therapy dog volunteer organization. These furry friends provide comfort and healing to many in the West Valley. Therapy dogs are taken to hospitals and assisted living homes to help patients cope mentally and to bring some joy to their lives. They are also used as part of the Reading Education Assistance Dog (R.E.A.D.®) program. A child who is having difficulty reading is paired with a dog, and the child then reads to the dog. This program is used in many countries worldwide and has proven to work. More information can be found on their website at www.muttsonamission.org.

Fall is the time of year when the Singles Club is looking for members who would be willing to volunteer their time by serving in positions that are important in keeping the club running smoothly. It is imperative to get new people and fresh ideas in order for the club to remain successful. The Singles Club is a great way for single residents to socialize, form new friendships, as well as to do community service. Anyone who might be interested in helping, especially on the activities committee, should contact Judy Maloney, president, at 630-776-4688.

The social calendar of events for the upcoming months is posted on the website and includes: Oktoberfest at Haus Murphy’s, Chicago the musical, The Musical Instrument Museum, Mormon Temple Open House Tour, Wildlife World Zoo, Phoenix Light Parade, happy hours, Saturday Breakfast Club, and the annual Christmas party. Regular monthly games and activities are also posted.

The general membership meeting is held on the first Sunday of the month in the Tuscany Ballroom at 2:30 p.m. PebbleCreek residents who are single and interested in joining are always welcome. For more information, visit www.pcsingles.org or contact the membership director, Lynne Johnson, at 602-793-4857.
