A Mark Hayes Christmas features solely the music of award winning concert pianist, composer, arranger and conductor Mark Hayes. The joy and wonder of the Christmas season is fully realized in the holiday music that he has composed or arranged and the songs are certain to strike a deep chord with listeners. The merriment begins with It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year. Mark’s magical arrangement of this holiday classic has an engaging jazz waltz feel. The lush harmonies, creative countermelodies, and Mark’s own “la-la-la” passages overflow with holiday gaiety. This is merely the start of an evening filled with an array of traditional, classical and sacred holiday music. “If you want to be happy in a million ways—” then listen as the sopranos and altos sing the 1954 holiday pop classic No Place Like Home for the Holidays. Hayes’ arrangement combines smooth, elegant choral writing with colorful and tastefully written piano accompaniment and orchestration. Our tenors, baritones and basses render an exuberant rendition of a traditional 15th century French carol entitled Sing We Now of Christmas. The dynamic choral parts, thrilling piano accompaniment and colorful chamber orchestration equally showcase the talents of our men and arranger Mark Hayes. The finale, Gloria in Excelsis Deo, is a festive, symphonic Mark Hayes creation that is a fresh and powerful Christmas proclamation. Of course the show wouldn’t be complete without a few surprises to delight and entertain everyone!
