PebbleCreek RVers Visit the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta

Ted Blaine

Ten Rovin’ Pebbles RV Club members traveled in five RVs to the Balloon Fiesta on Sunday, Oct. 8. We stayed overnight in Holbrook, where we had a group potluck and arrived at the Fiesta on Tuesday. Eight of the members had never experienced the Fiesta. This was the third visit by Wagon Masters Debbie and Ted Blaine.

On Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday mornings, we saw the mass ascension of balloons. On Thursday, the balloons couldn’t fly as the wind was blowing too much. Ten mph was their limit. Fortunately, we had scheduled a 75-minute trolly tour of old town Albuquerque followed by lunch at the Church Street Café.

Friday evening was the Special Shapes “Glowdeo.” The many, many Special Shapes balloons would light their burners in unison and “glow” for the spectators. More than 200 drones then put on a spectacular show for us.

On Saturday morning we were treated to the full solar eclipse that occurred at about 10:45 a.m. On Saturday evening, the Wagon Masters and Co-Wagon Masters hosted a dinner at the campsite. A special treat was the anniversary celebration of Debbie and Bill Arsenault. Sunday morning we broke camp, with three RVs headed east for an extended trip and two RVs headed home.

The Rovin’ Pebbles RV Club has been in existence since 1998 and is open to PebbleCreek residents with RVs. We meet the first Wednesday of each month (September to May) in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom.
