After last year’s stunning loss to Quail Creek, PebbleCreek Gun Club shooters were determined to recapture the Robson Trap Trials trophy—and they went all out to make sure they came away with the coveted prize.
PebbleCreek had held the trophy since the first Robson Trap Trial was organized in 2011 by Henry Tom, immediate past president of the PebbleCreek Gun Club. Last year’s loss was even more difficult to bear because the PebbleCreek and Quail Creek teams both scored 342 targets and the tie was broken by Quail Creek’s Dennis Finn and Ron Darrah who each had shot a perfect score of 25.
The additional practice and energy the PebbleCreek team put into winning the 2017 competition is evident in their overall score and the margin by which they won. This year the winning team had a combined score of 353 (11 more than last year) and beat the second place team by 24 targets! Darwin Puls was the high scorer, smashing 74 of his 75 targets and capturing the top Men’s Trophy as well as leading the PebbleCreek team to victory.
This year the event included 45 shooters from six Robson communities: Quail Creek, PebbleCreek, Robson Ranch, SaddleBrooke, Sun Lakes and Sun Bird. Thanks go to the Quail Creek Gun Club for organizing the event at the Casa Grande Trap and Skeet Club and for hosting the buffet lunch and awards ceremony in the Casa Grande Clubhouse.
In addition to recapturing the trophy (actually, a perpetual plaque), the first place team (the five PebbleCreek shooters with the best scores) received medals commemorating their achievement. First, second and third place trophies also went to the top male and female shooters participating in the event.
