PebbleCreek Racquettes: Athleticism and Fun at Its Best!

Vikki Constable

If you happen to wander by the tennis courts on Fridays, October through early March, you will find a number of PebbleCreek women’s tennis teams, competing in the West Valley Women’s Tennis League, known as the WVWTL.

One notable team is the 4.0 team named the Racquettes, comprised of 15 women, captained by Marty McAllister and co-captained by Lynne Caryle. This elite group of fine tennis players have built a steady reputation of claiming first place in the league for the past five out of six years. Currently, they continue to reign the division of seven teams, all from the West Valley, completing seven out of eighteen matches, as of Dec. 5. 2019.

The leagues play three doubles matches, positioned thoughtfully by Marty and Lynne. Let me begin to say it is no easy task: the other teams have pressed the Racquettes to be their best and play aggressively and consistently. Did I mention athleticism? Much of the team participates on other tennis teams, while engaging in other sporting endeavors, such as pickleball, golf, dance, and fitness classes, in addition to throwing in a few days at our gym. Racquettes play hard and have fun at the same time.

Racquettes members besides Marty and Lynne are: Sharon Brady, Vikki Constable, Bonnie Elliot, Heidi Farrell, Cindy Henry, Jill Lewis, Lynn Margison, Mary McConaughey, Sandie Nielson, Debbie Sayre, Linda Smith, Karyn Swinford, and Debbie Welsh.

“The Racquettes is such a great team,” comments Marty. “Not only because we play really strong tennis, but also because we are such good friends and have fun! Being captain for the last five years has been the best!”

If you find yourself near the courts, and see from across the parking lot, either at Tuscany Falls or at Eagle’s Nest Courts, please come by to watch and support the team. This ain’t your Grandma’s type of game; be prepared for tennis at its’ best!
