They came from PebbleCreek. They came from Robson Ranch. They met at the Tuscany Falls putting green on October 30, 2017.
It was The Duel in the Desert. Each community, PebbleCreek and Robson Ranch in Eloy, entered 23 putters into the first putting tournament between these two communities. Opponents were paired by their handicaps into two-person teams for the 18 holes. Each hole was worth one point, with the point going to the player with the fewest putts.
Each community entered a golf pro into the event. For the PebbleCreek Putters Club, Jason Whitehill, Director of Golf, putted against Jay Wilson, Head Golf Professional at Robson Ranch.
The two-person match up added to the competition, to the fun, and allowed all participants to meet other putters and make some new friends. At the end of the tournament, The Robson Ranch Putters outscored the home team. The outcome created lively discussion at the Chianti Room luncheon following the event, with everyone from both clubs looking forward to a rematch of the Duel in the Desert.
Players for the PebbleCreek Putters Club were Dick Helmstetter, Rene Lefebvre, Jerry Variola, Joe Jones, John Craven, David Valentini, Chris Mucha, Gary Switak, Bob Mantucca, John Santalucia, Dennis Tupper, Alberta Hohn, Natalie Niemi, Diana Berty, Barbara Brace, Carol Taylor, Lynn Cline, Jennifer Stahl, Dee Reynolds, Claire Tupper, Helen Vierow, Scott Derby and Kathie McNeil.
