PebbleCreek Live On Stage

Be a Part of the PC Singers

Donna Swagger

It’s August! Time for the PC Singers to reassemble and start rehearsals for the 2023 holiday concert. The journey will begin on Monday, Aug. 14, at 2:30 p.m. in the Renaissance Theater. After three months of “R and R,” the chorus members are fired up and ready to face the challenge of learning the repertoire of great holiday music. Audiences are assured that the Singers will put on a first-rate performance as they take to the stage Nov. 29 through Dec. 2!

It isn’t too late to join the Singers’ family and participate in the 2023 holiday concert! Our talented men’s section would like to increase in number and add more outstanding tenors, baritones, and basses to their section. Sopranos and altos are encouraged to apply, also.

The application process is simple:

1. Be a PebbleCreek resident.

2. Contact Virginia Baker (623-248-6323) for more information (or pick up an application form at the club information center located across from the Eagle’s Nest Pro Shop).

Previous choral experience and the ability to read music are advantageous, but not required. Prospective members need to be capable of learning challenging music and memorizing a few songs. Choral tracks (part dominant tracks) are available for each member to aid in learning the voice parts. Music is provided for all performances from the Music Library.

Rehearsals are every Monday afternoon, beginning with section practice from 1 to 2:15 p.m., followed by full-chorus rehearsals from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. The men and the women rehearse separately on alternate Wednesday afternoons from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Regular attendance is very important.

If singing isn’t your thing, maybe technology is! We need people to be trained to run the sound and lighting systems. If this is something you might be interested in doing, please contact Matt Drui at 623-535-9854.

Yes, you can be a part of the PC Singers family! Nine outstanding newcomers have joined Singers’ this past year and we’d like to add more talented performers to our excellent 70-voice chorus! Don’t delay, apply today!

A Play About Nothing?

The cast and crew of ‘A Play About Nothing’

Laurie Farquhar

A play about nothing? Who wants to see a play about nothing? If you are a fan of the hit television show, “Seinfeld,” then you know that doing nothing can mean big laughs, and that’s what you can expect when PC Players presents its original production, A Play About Nothing: The Seinfeld Chronicles.

Created by Director Rich Karp, A Play About Nothing follows the antics of Jerry Seinfeld, George Costanza, Elaine Benes, and Cosmo Kramer, along with a host of other quirky characters. The television show produced 180 episodes during its 9 seasons on air. With so much material available, how did Rich decide which funny moments to include in his script?

“As a diehard fan, I was familiar with every episode and knew Seinfeld fans would be clamoring for all the iconic episodes. Unfortunately, some of the classics would not fit well in a stage production … Some themes also pushed the concept of good taste …  That’s not to say we’re not taking a few chances by pushing the ‘good taste’ envelope to its limit. Even with that, there were still a lot of options, and I was able to draw from a half dozen episodes that most fans will recognize.”

That’s just enough hints of what to expect without revealing too much.

A Play About Nothing will run five nights from Tuesday, Oct. 24 to Saturday, Oct. 28, with all performances in the Renaissance Theater at 7 p.m. Tickets will go on sale in late September and will be available online by logging into the HOA website at www.pebblecreekhoa.org, clicking on “Things to Do,” and scrolling down to “Ticket Sales.” As always, the price is only $16.50 per ticket, which includes the service fees.

Mark your calendar and come see whether your favorite funny Seinfeld moments have been included in the Players production. Who knows, you might find new ones that you like even more.
