They have been on television, in the movies, on Broadway, and now their award-winning musical is coming to PebbleCreek. Who are they? The Addams family. And tickets for ShowTime’s production of The Addams Family: A New Musical go on sale this month.

The Addams family first came to life as a cartoon in The New Yorker magazine in 1938. In 1964, they became a hit television series and that led to several films, animated TV shows, and even video games. In 2010, The Addams Family musical opened on Broadway and played to full houses for almost two years before going on tour around the United States and the rest of the world.

What makes this fictional clan so popular? They are your all-American family with two parents, Gomez and Morticia; two kids, Pugsley and Wednesday; Grandma; Uncle Fester; and the butler Lurch. The difference is that they believe it is good to be sad and to feel pain is to feel joy.

In the musical, little Wednesday has grown up and fallen in love with a “normal” boy. Imagine her family’s reaction when she tells them that she wants to marry this boy and that his parents are coming for dinner. It will be a fateful evening in which secrets are revealed and life changes for everyone.

The Addams Family musical runs six nights from Monday April 10 through Saturday April 15, and tickets go on sale on Saturday, March 11 at 8 a.m.

To purchase tickets, go to the HOA website at www.pebblecreekhoa.org.  You do not have to log in to the website. Just click on “Things to Do” and scroll down to “Ticket Sales.” Tickets are still only $16.50 each and you may purchase as many as you like. VISA and Mastercard are accepted.

All tickets will be sold online, but if you need any help with your purchase, please call either JoAnn Smyth at 623-466-8471 or Becky Hunt at 626-818-8682. Both of them will be happy to help you complete your purchase.

The Addams family may be fictional, but according to The Daily Telegraph and TIME Magazine, they are “one of the most iconic families in American history, up there with the Kennedys.” Here is your chance to see how this eccentric household of morbid misfits handles every parent’s dilemma: what to do when your child falls in love with someone you don’t know.

PebbleCreek Singers in Rehearsals

Diane Piehl

The PebbleCreek Singers are in full rehearsals for the spring concert “Spring Back in Time.” Melinda Klinka joined the second soprano section, along with Robert Cole with the baritones and Gale Barr, a first soprano. All are welcome voices to add to the chorus.

The chorus will be performing fun and heartfelt music through the ages. They’ll put on a show for you with fascinating rhythms, tributes, medleys and patriotism, not to mention that the chorus specialty groups—Triple Trouble, 4 Kings, Key of She, and 8 Is Enough—will be thinking spring, flowers, rock ‘n’ roll, and other surprises.

So, hopefully you have marked your calendars for April 27, 28, or 29 to attend the Singers’ concert, “Spring Back in Time.” Online ticket sales begin at 8 a.m. on March 27. Tickets are $16.50 each. To purchase go to the HOA website at www.pebblecreekhoa.org. You do not have to log in to the website. Simply click on “Things to Do,” scroll down to “Ticket Sales,” and select the date and seats you desire. Visa and Mastercard are accepted.

PebbleCreek Big Band Presents ‘Burst Of Music XVI’

Susan Kice

Tickets went on sale for this much-anticipated concert by PebbleCreek’s own Big Band on Feb. 17, online only, and will continue though the concert dates, March 16, 17, and 18. The procedure to secure tickets is the same as in previous years. From the PC HOA website pebblecreekhoa.org go to Things to do > Ticket Sales > Burst of Music XVI > and follow prompts. Tickets are $16.50 each and include all handing fees.

So what is Burst of Music? Burst of Music was created by the late Bruce Birnel 16 years ago as an offshoot of The PebbleCreek Musicians. They have presented annual concerts ever since, consisting of a wide repertoire of music from jazz to swing to ballads to pop, and of course, the ever-popular sounds of the Big Bands.

The 2023 concert will showcase newcomer Mike Wiesner making his debut as director, along with vocalists Vince Coppola and Becky Trimble. You will remember Becky’s outstanding performance from last year, and you won’t soon forget Vince’s. Yours truly has been privileged to sit in on rehearsals, and all I can say is “Wow!” You will not only be tapping your feet, you will be “on your feet” as you applaud these talented musicians and their outstanding renditions.

Get your tickets now … they’re selling out fast. In fact, it’s been “SRO” for the last few years.

Sunday afternoon, March 19 at 3 p.m., several of PebbleCreek’s favorite vocalists will be singing “A Toast to Life” in support of the Alzheimer’s Association. This exceptional concert, to be held in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom, is a celebration of the joys and memories of a lifetime with solos and harmonies sure to stir up those special moments in your own life and make you smile. The 90-minute program includes a repertoire of specially selected songs such as “Sunrise, Sunset,” “Friendship,” “Happy Days Are Here Again” and “I’ve Got the World on a String.”

Seating has been limited in order to provide the audience with an intimate cabaret atmosphere, and most seats are already taken. If you want to attend, please look on the egroup, in case some spaces come available. And because all profits from this event go directly to the Alzheimer’s Association, there will be no refunds.

Appetizers and a cash bar add to the festivities.

Calling All Rock ‘n Rollers

Laurie Farquhar

Do you love rock ‘n roll? Is playing in a rock ‘n roll band on your bucket list of things to try? Have you ever dreamed about singing in a 1960s style rock group?

Next fall ShowTime Productions is presenting a history of rock ‘n roll called “It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll” and you are invited to be a part of this high-energy, original production.

One of the starring features of this show will be a full rock ‘n roll band, complete with drums, keyboards, guitars, a bass, and possibly a saxophone and/or trumpet. The musicians and singers will perform many of your favorite songs from the 1950s, ’60s, and ’70s. The only thing missing is you and your musical talents.

“It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll” will run six nights from Monday, Nov. 13 through Saturday, Nov. 18 in the Renaissance Theater, but auditions are coming up next month, on April 18 and April 20.

For more details on how and where to try out, contact the Director Phil Lubman at 623-800-2143 or phil.lubman@gmail, or the Assistant Director Dave Silverstein at [email protected].

Go ahead and brush up on your guitar licks, pull out your bell bottom trousers, and get ready to check off that important item from your bucket list. As legendary rocker Pete Townsend once said, “Rock ‘n roll might not solve your problems but it does let you dance all over them.”
