Live on Stage: Remembering M*A*S*H Tickets on Sale This Month
Laurie Farquhar
What is the correct way to hold a scalpel? Would an operating room nurse hand an instrument to the surgeon, or would the surgeon take it from a tray? What does it mean to “debride” a wound? These are just a few of the questions encountered during rehearsals for PebbleCreek Players’ upcoming production of Remembering M*A*S*H. Fortunately, two of the cast members know exactly how to make everyone who is on stage in the OR scenes look authentic.
Marcia Hall-Brown, who plays Nurse Baker, and Steve Jensen, who has the role of Trapper, each have more than 30 years of experience in medicine. Marcia was an OR nurse and administrator, while Steve was an endovascular surgeon, as well as a doctor in the Navy. Their advice, based on their medical knowledge, means that their fellow cast members will look and act like doctors and nurses in an operating room. Steve says most of them learned quickly how to handle a scalpel and other movements they will need in the OR scenes, such as looking as if they are suturing or suctioning wounds. Marcia adds that pronunciation of medical terms is another area where she and Steve have been able to help the other actors.

So, does the OR nurse hand the instrument to the doctor, or does the surgeon take it from a tray? Come and see for yourself when Hawkeye, Trapper, Hot Lips, Radar, and the rest of the gang from the 4077th transform the Renaissance Theater stage into a 1950s mobile army surgical hospital in the PebbleCreek Players production of Remembering M*A*S*H.

How can she make her family seem “normal” when she introduces them to her future in-laws?
There are 19 characters in the show—12 men and seven women. Some of them are major roles, but a few of them have only a couple of lines, which would be great for anyone who wants to check out PebbleCreek’s theater community.
