PebbleCreek Lady Niners holds Fall Classic

Suzanne Butler

The first annual Inter-Club Fall Classic with PebbleCreek Lady Niners and Sun City Grand Lady Niners was a big success with close to 100 players. The ladies even drummed up a little rain during the morning play, but managed to finish their rounds. Sun City Grand members were teamed up with PebbleCreek Niners making for a lot of foursome fun. Always great to get to know other lady golfers! A delicious soup and salad luncheon was served after golf in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom.

Prizes were awarded for first and second place on the front and back nine at Eagle’s Nest as well as Closest-to-the-Pin on the Par 3’s. Winners for the day were as follows:

First Place Eagle’s Nest front nine, left to right: Joyce Hagberg, Lorna Lincoln, Mary Ventura, Toni Friedman

Second Place Eagle’s Nest front nine, left to right: Jeri Miller, Pat Kaer, Sharon Dunn, Pam Grimwood

First Place Eagle’s Nest back nine, left to right: Cheryle Pike, Vicki Wolfe, Diana Berty, Pam Pietrandoni

Second Place Eagle’s Nest back nine, left to right: Carol Hahn, Barbara Hockert, Sharon McPherson, Hattie Mulcahy

PCL9GA member Kathy Tobin also won a Closest-to-the-Pin.

All agreed it was great to get the two clubs together and plans are in the works for a similar event to be hosted by Sun City Grand next May.

Hole-In-One for Karen O’Grady

Karen O’Grady is still excited about her first ever hole-in-one on October 8! Karen has a regular golf group that plays on Thursdays from October through June. Since many of the ladies were not back to PebbleCreek yet, Karen and friends Suzie Twedt, a fellow Niner member, and Carole Kahler decided to play with just the three of them. Karen hadn’t golfed much over the summer and was really looking forward to seeing the Thursday group. She hit her Adams 5 hybrid off the tee box on number 12 on Eagle’s Nest and could see it was a good shot right at the pin. The pin was set in the middle-left edge and there was a slight rise just before it blocking the view of the hole, so she lost sight of the ball as it rolled on the green. As ladies will do, they were talking and not thinking much about their shots as they drove to the green. Karen kept looking for her ball as they approached the green but couldn’t see it. She was disappointed when she got on the green, thinking the ball must have rolled off the green, and began looking for her ball in the rough and the water. Friend Suzie walked over to the hole, cleared her throat and grinned—there was the ball in the hole! Karen said, “I was trying to act ‘humble and cool’ but then we all started screaming and high-fiving!” The ladies celebrated with drinks at Eagle’s Nest where Karen most surely picked up the tab!

Play-Away Days

The PebbleCreek Lady Niners don’t miss an opportunity for Tuesday golf even during over seeding! The Niners traveled to the very popular Falcon Dunes course on October 13. They headed to Palm Valley Lakes Course on October 27 for an individual 18-hole round with light luncheon following golf. Nice to check out other courses in the area, but always glad to get back to league play at the great Eagle’s Nest and Tuscany Courses!
