The hiking club has experienced impressive participation for the current season, which ends May 6, and finished with a flourish. For a couple of weeks during the month of March the club experienced its own March Madness since it seemed like every other hike had a new hiker celebrating an important milestone. A well-known Chinese proverb states, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” During the last half of March, after starting with a single hike several years earlier, each of the four hikers featured, after approximately 2.4 million steps, reached one of the first major club milestones by recording 1,000 career hiking miles. In the picture Sandy Mednick, Roger Sanders, Grant Sharp and Marilyn Reynolds took a break during their hikes to celebrate their accomplishment before beginning the trek toward the next 1,000 miles. It may take less time to reach the next milestone since the club hikes five days a week during the regular season (September through April) and explores new trails for the upcoming season during the summer; visit the club website at PCHIKERS.ORG for more information and photos.
