PebbleCreek Democratic Club to Meet in June

Gillian Driscoll

2024 is an important year for voting. November brings the election, and all citizens need to be informed about their local as well as national candidates. The PebbleCreek Democratic Club usually ends their season with the last meeting in May as many residents leave for cooler climes. However, in this important year, the club has decided to extend their season into June.

This gives us an opportunity to host additional candidates for Maricopa County officers, positions that are important to us all. Maricopa County is the fourth most populous county in the nation and as such, its officers have great responsibilities to county residents and the state of Arizona. In turn county citizens have a responsibility to elect the best candidates for the county.

At the June meeting, candidates for those offices that are up for election will attend to explain to us why they are the best choice for these important positions, answer our questions, and address our concerns. Candidates confirmed for the meeting include Tyler Kamp, candidate for Maricopa County Sheriff; Tamika Wooten, candidate for Maricopa County Attorney; Gregory Freeman, candidate for Maricopa County Assessor; David Mathew Sandoval, candidate for Maricopa County Board of Supervisors District 4; Tim Stringham, candidate for Maricopa County Recorder; and Dr. Laura Metcalfe, candidate for Maricopa County Superintendent of Schools.

Meeting candidates face to face and hearing their platforms firsthand is most advantageous to those who take voting seriously. Although with many offices to vote for on the ballot in November it is tempting to vote only for the highest officers in the land, down ballot, local candidates have significant responsibilities that affect our daily lives. Being informed about these candidates is essential to assist residents in making the best decisions concerning voting.

The PebbleCreek Democratic Club will be taking a break for July and August. During that time, however, members will still be involved in community projects including collecting clothing and items for the Agua Fria Food Bank, Dress for Success, Hope’s Closet, and the Phoenix Mission. If you have any items to donate during the summer months, please contact Gillian Driscoll at 303548-2108 or Carol Miller at 623476-9078. In addition, ladies’ luncheons, men’s breakfasts, and other social activities will continue during the summer months.

Club meetings will resume on Wednesday, Sept. 4 in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom. Social hour is at 6 p.m. and the meeting begins at 7 p.m. The meetings are open and all are welcome.
