When Terri and John Hale came to PebbleCreek as snowbirds from Iowa two years ago, they immediately joined the Democratic Club. Long time Democrats, they have been great club supporters both here and in Iowa.
John and Terri own the Hale Group that advocates for older Iowans and those with disabilities. John worked for the Social Security Administration for 25 years and has a wealth of experience in championing causes close to the hearts of seniors. In March of this year, the couple wrote an extensive and comprehensive opinion piece documenting the current state of Social Security. They titled the piece “If you’re not scared about Social Security, you should be.” It was published in several media outlets in Iowa, including the statewide Des Moines Register, the Cedar Rapids Gazette, an online forum for Iowa political issues named Bleeding Heartland, as well as another community newspaper.
Because of this exposure, the article was picked up by USA Today and as a result, was spotted by a CBS news correspondent. CBS News ran a feature based on their article and interviewed older Iowans as well as John and Terri themselves. This sequence of events demonstrates how seemingly small efforts to inform others and make them aware of potential possibilities that will affect them, can snowball and end up carrying the message far and wide.
We congratulate John and Terri on the success of their mission and commend them for their continuing hard work. We are fortunate to have them as members of the PebbleCreek Democratic Club.
In other club news, the annual Spring Picnic held at Sunrise Park in April was a great success. The weather was kind and 75 members enjoyed food, beverages, and great company. There was also a good turnout of club members at the April 5 Hands Off rallies in the county. PC Democrats are active and engaged not just in their club but in the surrounding district and county as well.
