The PebbleCreek Democratic Club’s decision to hold a meeting in June rather than ending the season in May, proved to be a wise one. Not only were we able to secure several fine speakers but also an unexpectedly large crowd in the audience.
Speakers included six candidates for Maricopa County Offices. They are: Tyler Kamp running for Sheriff, Tamika Wooten running for City Attorney, David Sandoval running for the Board of Supervisors, Tim Stringham running for City Recorder, Gregory Freeman running for County Assessor, and Dr. Laura Metcalfe running for County Superintendent of Schools.
Before the speakers took their turn, Vicki Barber, club president, welcomed to the meeting candidates for City Council, candidates for the Arizona Legislature, and representatives for Quacy Smith, candidate for Congressional District 9 running against Paul Gosar (R).
Tyler Kamp, candidate for Sheriff, has served in both local and international law enforcement. He represents the ideal blend of innovative crime fighting techniques, ethical leadership, and community engagement. Candidate Kemp explained that his vision for public safety is justice for all.
Tamika Wooten, candidate for City Attorney, has three decades of experience as a prosecutor, defense attorney, and judge. She has practiced law in Arizona for 34 years both in Tucson and in Glendale, where she was Chief Prosecutor. She is pro-choice and pledges not to prosecute women for health concerns.
David Sandoval, candidate for the Board of Supervisors, is a third generation Arizonan and member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. He has been a member of the Governing Board of the Peoria School District. Candidate Sandoval, says he will not negotiate his values and respects all perspectives.
Tim Stringham, candidate for County Recorder, is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, including serving a tour in Afghanistan. He also served as an attorney in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. The County Recorder is responsible for early and mail–in voting, and Candidate Stringham vows to protect the rights of all Arizonans to vote safely and securely.
Gregory Freeman, candidate for County Assessor, has a wealth of experience in real estate, including working as an escrow officer, notary, residential leasing agent, and currently as a commercial property manager. He noted that he has watched the housing shortage evolve into a crisis, and pledges to do all he can to support the American dream of owning a home.
Dr. Laura Metcalfe, candidate for the County Superintendent of Schools, is an educator that came from industry to make a significant difference in education. She holds 27 years of responsible education experience, as a teacher and administrator. She is passionate about supporting learning and achievement for all kids, families, the public school system, and communities.
