The below tributes are written with love and tremendous respect for three people who have given of themselves over and over again since the beginning of the PC Art Club. There are many others who will be recognized in the coming months but it seemed only right to start with three of the free spirits who helped to start this club.
Recognizing John Balough
John Balough has been a presence with the Art Club since its inception in 1996. Actually, he is one of the founders of this wonderful and generous group of artists. John gives free workshop/classes every Saturday in a variety of mediums. John has been donating his time and talents to our community for many years.
He is also the unauthorized historian for the club with boxes of information that he has kept over the years. Because of that, we will be compiling and publishing tidbits in the coming months. He is a treasure and we all appreciate his generosity and his gifts to our club.
Saluting Fred and Lorraine Alves
The husband and wife team of Fred and Lorraine Alves are two of the major contributors to our PC Art Club and have been giving of their talents to us for many years. Fred and Lorraine are oil painters and both are very giving of their time and talents. Fred gives free classes every Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and anyone in the community is welcome who wants to learn and/or improve their oil painting skills. All Fred asks is a small donation to his favorite charity.
You can see Lorraine’s paintings when you visit the Expressions Gallery. As you stroll down the hall in the Creative Arts Center you will see more of her art work displayed in the windows outside of the Art Room (also known as the Coyote Room). Her work is beautiful and she captures light magically. She also teaches classes on painting flowers in oil.
John, Fred and Lorraine all exemplify what a club is all about—not just receiving money for sharing their knowledge but leaving a mark of generosity and sharing their passion with others. Check them out!
