For a few years now, our PCM9GA has held Summer Sizzler events late in the summer dog-days and this August 25 event was certainly not by any means a Fizzler and surely met everyone’s expectations for starters.
The tournament format, which was a normal Scramble format, was somewhat initially suspect since of all things, everyone teed off from the Yellow Tees. As it turned out, no one complained about overshooting the greens and on the contrary, our 54 or so participants simply enjoyed teeing off from the Yellow Tees at our Tuscany Palms Course. The somewhat forgiving Scramble Format for our higher handicapped golfers was less of a factor due to the shorter Yellow Tee-offs but a minimum of two initial tee shots from each foursome member was required.
To no surprise for anyone, the scores were ever so close with two foursomes tying with a net 29 and tie-breaking rules were invoked to determine the first place winning team. So very closely behind was the third-place team which came in with an equally quite impressive net 30.
Congratulations to the winning teams as follows:
First Place: Chris Jeans, John Craven, Richard Rippe, Monte Page – 29
Second Place: Ray Clements, David Kennedy, Charley Wiley, David Langan – 29
Third Place: Ray Clements, David Kennedy, Charley Wiley, David Langan – 30
Closest to the Pin Winners were Chris Mucha, Monte Page
As usual, after the event, the winning teams were congratulated and most of our participants socialized and enjoyed their beer and beverages in the patio behind the Tuscany Club house. The annual Summer Survival Tournament with all four PebbleCreek groups participating was just conducted on September 28 and as expected was an awesome success. With the annual October through early November closing of our PebbleCreek courses for the fall over-seeding operations, our fall PCM9GA weekly events will all be for 18 holes and will be held at off-campus locations as follows:
October 13: Falcon Dunes
October 20: Sundance
October 27: Coyote Lakes
November 3: Coldwater
Our current membership role is about 350 members and we highly urge new interested members to join our truly outstanding fun-loving group which welcomes golfers at all skill levels. The $50 annual cost includes dues for the AGA membership which is essential for handicap reporting. Beginning October 1, new members may join for the same $50 membership fee with the added advantage of having their membership dues covered through the remainder of 2016 as well as all of year 2017.
