PCM9GA focuses on giving a helping hand to those in need

PCM9GA, the Golfing Niners, are not just one of PebbleCreek’s major golf groups that focus on the game, having fun, and meeting new friends. The Niners are also committed to give back to worthwhile endeavors. This year they identified two groups to which they would provide support.

Bruce Hulbert, Treasurer of the PCM9GA says, “In the past, any fines or penalties incurred by golfers because of late cancellations, etc. went into the general fund of the club and were used to defray refreshment expenses after play. The BOD thought there was a better use for those funds, so earlier in 2018, we passed a resolution to donate those funds, at year end, to our own Kare Bears organization, that helps out Creekers with a variety of needs.”

To that end, PCM9GA has written a check for $350 to the Kare Bears.

President Ray Clements has spear-headed this year’s effort to provide funds to a major, local charitable organization. Luke Spouses’ Club was chosen by the BOD to be the recipient.

The Luke Spouses’ Club (LSC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable and social organization, open to all spouses affiliated with Luke AFB. They are committed to supporting military families in a variety of ways. They operate and manage the Luke AFB Thrift Shop/Airmen’s Attic; provide volunteer community service; make grants available to the Luke AFB Library and Youth Center; maintain an apartment at the Ronald McDonald House at Phoenix Children’s Hospital and awards college scholarships annually to deserving military dependents wishing to further their education.

After a joint meeting between the PCM9GA and the LSC BOD’s, PCM9GA President Ray Clements said, “Our organization can’t think of a better group than yours to help you out in your charitable work. To that end, we will target providing funds from our activities this year to help you fund at least five scholarship grants for your program.”

The PCM9GA is off to a great start. At year end, it had over $1300 earmarked for the scholarship fund with plans to generate much more through the club’s annual Member-Guest Tournament in March.
