PCM9GA Conducts Off-Site Coyote Lakes Tournament

Erv Stein

In the early morning of Oct. 24, with PebbleCreek mandated reseeding closures still in effect, our PebbleCreek Men’s Nine-Hole Golf Association (PCM9GA) conducted our second “off-site” tournament event at the quite beautiful Coyote Lakes Golf Club located in Surprise, Ariz. As it turns out, obtaining the tee time space for our entire participating PCM9GA group proved to be a major challenge with so many golfers competing for sharply reduced available tee times due to reseeding closures at most golf courses. Thanks to our PCM9GA Director of Golf’s persistence, Ray Clements, a 6:45 a.m. shotgun start time was scheduled and close to 50 perhaps somewhat sleep deprived but always enthusiastic PCM9GA golfers teed off in surprising quite chilly high 50 crisp temperatures, making the ever-torrid summer weather a distant memory.

The tournament play consisted of a best ball format where each foursome member drove their ball for every shot, but the best ball of the team was utilized for each succeeding shot through the final putting to determine the team score for each of the nine holes played. We are quite fortunate to have a number of PCM9GA golfers who consistently golf at a high skill level. Most participating foursomes did quite well and the competition was very tight with just several team score strokes separating the top and last place foursomes. In view of the rather challenging nature of Coyote Lakes, still three foursomes tied for first place with identical team scores of 31, four under Par. Tiebreaking scorecard playoff rules were implemented to determine the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winning groups based upon scoring on the more difficult holes.

Kudos to the winning foursomes as follows, which indeed displayed outstanding golf skills.

Coyote Lakes Winners Scoring Summary

1st Place: Steve Schwartz, Ray Clements, Gary Houser, Jerry Dileonardo, 4 Under Par, 31 Total Gross

2nd Place: Wayne Tripp, John Craven, Harve Latson, Dan Walla, 4 Under Par, 31 Total Gross

3rd Place: Ron Whiteley, Steve Roseman, Bill Hill, Bill Lansing, 4 Under Par, 31 Total Gross

Following the event, we all enjoyed an early lunch at the Coyote Lakes Golf Club restaurant and winners were announced and photos were taken and so forth. On Nov. 6, our PCM9GA resumed activities with our weekly Thursday events back at PebbleCreek with the fall, winter, and spring afternoon 1 p.m. tee times. The club’s three major exciting events scheduled through the end of the year included our Nov. 13 Veterans event, followed by the Nov. 20 Welcome Back Snowbirds tournament. This month is our Dec. 18 Holiday Mixer and Banquet Tourney. Our PCM9GA group, founded in 2005 and now in its 21st year of operation, has grown by leaps and bounds with a current whopping membership of 432. We highly encourage interested, prospective PCM9GA members in our exceptional, fun-loving, low-key group of golfers to contact Dusty Howard at 805-218-6461 or Tim Munson at 503-460-7618.
