From early October through the first week in November, our five PebbleCreek nine-hole courses are closed for the essential fall reseeding operations and for several years now, accordingly, our PCM9GA has conducted typically three or four off campus golfing events to continue our weekly golfing events. Our first event was conducted on October 13 at our nearby highly regarded Falcon Dunes Golf Course which is actually located in Waddell, Arizona on the grounds of Luke Air Force Base.
Falcon Dunes is truly a beautifully manicured course, not tremendously challenging, but with its share of tricky slopes, sand traps and water hazards. Our sizable group of about 70 PCM9GA golfers teed off utilizing a Scramble Format at 8:00 a.m. and everyone simply enjoyed the challenge and tournament competition. As for the competition, while Falcon Dunes has a PAR 71 rating, so many foursome teams came in several strokes under PAR and many of us showed up that day with their A-Game with a number of outstanding initial drives, terrific fairway shots and several phenomenal Birdie putts. And wow, for the Closest to the Pin competition, five names were on the stack for hole 17 with Kent Chu emerging as the winner.
Kudos to our winning teams as follows as well as our four Closest to the Pin Winners that received a cash award plus a free Coyote hockey ticket:
Rank • Net Team Score • Team Members
1 • 64 • Tom Pizzello, Kent Chu, Greg Harris, Connie Neeley
2 • 66 • Greg, Ray, Brad Hedien, Marc Gouronc, Lee Ayers
3 • 67 • Josh Rabinowitz, Rob Risden, Frank Rodgers, Jim Stack
Closest to the Pin Winners
Clint Alston, Jim Stack, Greg Harris, Kent Chu
Following our outing we all enjoyed lunch together at the Falcon Dunes Clubhouse Restaurant and the winners were announced and congratulated.
With reseeding now completed, our regular weekly golfing event resumed on November 10 at PebbleCreek with high participation due to the return of our snowbird members. Our semi-annual Membership Meeting was held on November 16 and our always highly anticipated PCM9GA Holiday Party will be held on December 9.
Our current membership role is about 350 members and we highly urge new, interested members to join our truly outstanding fun-loving group which welcomes golfers at all skill levels. The $50 annual cost includes dues for the AGA membership which is essential for handicap reporting. From October 1 through the end of December, new members may join for the same $50 membership fee with the added advantage of having their membership dues covered through the remainder of 2016 as well as all of year 2017.
