Our PCM9GA group continues to expand our membership role by leaps and bounds and now with 350 plus members, we held our third annual Red-White and Blue Tournament, teeing off at our Tuscany Falls Course on Thursday, June 30 at 7:30 a.m.

Even with the seasonal mass exodus of many of our snowbird members, we had 56 highly charged participants competing and our quite common Scramble scoring format was utilized in which the best drive for each stroke was utilized for each successive stroke all the way through the concluding putting strokes for each hole. For the initial drive for each hole, a minimum of two drives from each team member was required to be utilized. On the surface, this best ball requirement may ease the pressure for team members which may have a few bad drives off the tee; however, when a team member must have his drive counted for the final hole, sure enough, considering just how tight the competition often is, one final errant drive or water ball will take a team completely out of the competition.

As per usual, the final team scores for each foursome were incredibly close with a mere six strokes separating the first place score of 32 and the high score of 38. Two teams wound up with a net 32 and tie breaking rules were invoked to declare the first and second place winners. Kudos to the first place foursome comprised of Steve Shaver, Mike Hession, Randy Prinz and Bob Caldwell. Congratulations to all the winning foursomes and Closest to the Pin Winners as follows:

Rank Team Score Winning Team Members

First Place 32 Steve Shaver, Mike Hession, Randy Prinz, Bob Caldwell

Second Place 32 Ken Johnson, Frank Pierce, Ray Dombrowski, Jed Weisman

Third Place 33 Tom Booth, Greg McKenzie, Ross Purpura, Walter Hohlstein

Closest to Pin Winners Bob Mantucca, Bob Schrader

Once again, in the Independence Day spirit, several of our members participated in our July Fourth Best Costume competition and congratulations to Walter Hohlstein for winning this time.
