The vast majority of our PCM9GA snowbird members were still around and not departed yet to their remote summer destinations and therefore, on April 24 on an excellent sunlit and temperate afternoon, well over 100 PCM9GA golfers participated in a quite interesting tournament utilizing the Lone Ranger format at our Eagle’s Nest front and back nine courses. Our pairing committee members do a terrific job in keeping the competition very fair by evenly teaming up the tournament foursome members based upon their established AGA handicaps. Likewise, the endless array of diversified formats they select for our weekly events have little chance of boring even our most conservative PCM9GA members.
The Lone Ranger format utilizes the gross scores from two team members for every hole. However, for this format each team member alternates in that regardless of what the score is, the designated team member’s score will be used and this alternates between team members on a sequential basis. Therefore, for the first four holes a different team member score will be utilized which will change for every hole for the entire nine hole event. The second score will be the lowest gross score of the remaining team members for each hole.
Kudos for the winning foursomes listed as follows:
Eagles Nest Front Nine Winners: First place Gary Draus, Tom Tomtan, Alvin Glatt and David Lanigan; Second place David Gasch, Gary Gallagher, Russ Steglich and John Alderink; Third place Pat Spellacy, Bill Schroeder, Robert Gunn and Willard Pearson
Eagle’s Nest Back Nine Winners; First place Ray Baumbach, Randy Mcconaughey, Robert Caldwell and Lou Cerri; Second place Larry Gleason, Richard Whittier, Ted McGovern and Gene Lindsey; Third place Russ Georgesen, Keith Charlesworth, Clay Troxell and Patrick Sherlock
Closest To Pin Winners: Front Nine, hole 4 Dave Gasch; hole 8 Pat Moore. Back Nine, Hole 12 Larry Gleason; hole 17 Ted McGovern
This spring for the past several weeks, our PCM9GA was simply quite inundated with event after event which was highlighted by our annual Championship Flight Tournament and our annual banquet. As of May 22, our weekly events will revert back to our summer month starting time of 7:30 a.m. every Thursday to escape the scorching Arizona afternoon summer heat.
All interested golfers are urged to join our exciting and fun loving club which welcomes golfers at all skill levels. The annual $50 cost includes dues for the AGA membership which is essential for handicap reporting.
