The second Ladies Arizona Summer Survivor Invitational (LASSI) Tournament of the year was played at Copper Canyon Golf Club at the Sun City Festival in Buckeye on July 1.
Starting with this tournament, a hole-in-one pot was added. At each tournament, ten percent of the mulligan money will be added to the pot. The balance as of July 1 was $50.
The playing field was full and the PebbleCreek Ladies Golf Association (PCLGA) was well represented with 11 teams: Judi Floyd and Geanie Aldridge, Sally Babbitt and Chanca Morrell, Tess Braden and Carol Taylor, Donnie Meyers and Barbara Chilton, Sue White and Pat DeMatties, Donna Havener and Judy Newell, Chris Cook and Jean Ostroga, Jan DeHaven and Nancy Hernandez, Ellen Enright and Cindy Sota, Andrea Dilger and Sharon Hadley and Sharon Dawe and Carol Langhardt.
Donna Havener reported that Copper Canyon is a beautiful course with three nine-hole fairways. Play was held on the Vista and the Lakes. The greens are bent grass and very fast, but also very true. It was a little toasty, though we had a good supply of scented, ice-cold towels available. Lunch was good, the course was good and the PCLGA had several winners. What more can you ask for?
The winners were Flight A second place, Judy Newell and Donna Havener, and Flight A third place, Ellen Enright and Cindy Sota. Closest to the pin winners were Andrea Dilger and Carol Taylor. Barbara Chilton won longest putt in her flight. Congratulations to all!
The next LASSIE tournament will be Aug. 5 at the Coyote Lakes Golf Club in Surprise.
