PCLGA members still have the beat

Lynn Matousek

On February 7 and 8, 2017, the PCLGA held its Senior/Super Senior Tournament, co-chaired by Pat Lohmiller and Lena Godebu. “We Still Have the Beat” was the tournament’s theme honoring the participating senior members who are 65 and older and the super senior members who are 75 and older. What an amazing two days it was! Of the 122 players in the field, most played in the two-day Senior Tournament, while 18 of the players who were over 75 participated in the one-day Super Senior Tournament. The format was low gross, low net, flighted by age and handicap. A luncheon followed the tournament in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom consisting of a salad, potato bar, soup and dessert.

Determining the overall champions became an extra challenge when playoffs were required for the Senior Low Net player and the Super Senior Low Gross and Low Net players. It took two playoff holes for the Senior Low Net player and the Super Senior Low Gross player to prevail. Amazingly, it took two holes, two chip-offs and two putting challenges to determine the Super Senior Low Net Champion.

The overall 2017 Champions were announced by Pro Jason Whitehill: Low Gross Senior Champion Chanca Morrell; Low Net Senior Champion Donnie Meyers; Low Gross Super Senior Champion Mary Coon and Low Net Super Senior Champion Ruth Vohs. Congratulations on an outstanding job! Trophies were awarded to the winners and their names will be engraved on the Senior and Super Senior Champion trophies located in the glass case outside the Eagle’s Nest Pro Shop.
