‘Tis the season for the wearing of the Red and Green was the theme for the annual Red and Green Tournament held by the PCLGA on December 6 and 7, 2016. Co-Chairpersons Judy Layton and Maria Murray did a fantastic job of planning to make the Red and Green Tournament a great success. The holiday spirit was alive and well with 144 PCLGA members wearing red or green, the colors of their respective team. The Red Team and the Green Team rivaled each other in a match play format: two person teams, one net better ball. At the end of the first day of play the score was close: Green 329.5; Red 318.5. On the second day the Green Team prevailed, the final score being Green 657, Red 639. The prize: bragging rights! And brag they did with a spirited applause!
There were prizes for Closest-to-the-Pin in four flights on both days. The winners on day one at Eagle’s Nest No. 17 were Flight 1-10 Andrea Dilger; Flight 11-20 Layne Sheridan; Flight 21-30 Maria Murray; Flight 31-40 Judy Anspaugh. The winners on day two at Falls/Palms No. 17 were: Flight 1-10 Kathy Hubert-Wyss; Flight 11-20 Donnie Meyers; Flight 21-30 Ruth Shaffer; Flight 31-40 Sharon Dawe. Congratulations!
A delicious luncheon of soup, salad and dessert was held in the Tuscany Ballroom following the tournament. In the spirit of the holiday season, proceeds from the tournament and donations made by the PCLGA members went to New Life Center, a local emergency domestic violence shelter for women and children. During the luncheon Marina Pappas, Community Volunteer Coordinator of New Life Center, spoke to the attendees about the goals and accomplishments of their organization and expressed her sincere appreciation for the members’ generosity in the past and again this year. The PCLGA donations this year totaled $3,500. Most generous, ladies, and thank you! Again, a big thanks to Judy, Maria and all of those who helped make this tournament such a great event.
