PebbleCreek Genealogy Society (PCGS) had two field trips in April. The group visited the West Valley Genealogy Center & Library, an affiliate of the FamilySearch.org locations. Thank you to Barb Downey, carpool drivers, and those members who attended! The Beginning Genealogy special interest group (SIG) was well represented.
On April 30, a group attended the ASU Gammage presentation, “Past Connections that Bind Us All: A Conversation with Dr. Henry Louis Gates.” “Finding Your Roots,” sponsored by PBS and hosted by Dr. Gates, continues to fascinate all of us with his programs about celebrities and their ancestors. Thank you to our drivers, participants, and Judy Husk for organizing this event.
The May speaker was Rob Wilson, librarian from the Goodyear Library. He informed us about the new library plans and what genealogy resources will be available to us. Ancestry.com Library Edition and other online databases as well as offline reference books and magazines are available free to residents of Goodyear with their library card.
No formal meetings are planned for the summer months. Featured speakers for next season will begin in September. The PCGS special interest groups will meet informally this summer for those interested in the following genealogy research topics: Colonial America, Beginning Genealogy, Germany and Poland, Genealogy Books, and Sweden. In addition, LifeLong Learning, in cooperation with PCGS, will be offering genealogy classes for those interested in their upcoming program.
