In a recent issue of the AARP Bulletin, an article explored how changes in lifestyle and outlook can affect longevity. “Friendship and Purpose” were listed as two of the most important factors in aging successfully.
For the single population in PebbleCreek, there is no need to look any further than the Tuscany Falls Clubhouse on the first Sunday of the month to discover just how many men and women have discovered that joining the PC Singles Club has helped them to find the friendship and purpose that has led to a more positive and optimistic outlook on life.
Lasting friendships among the Club’s 180 members have been formed over regular monthly activities, such as Brunch and a Movie, Pictionary, Game Nights, Karaoke, the after-meeting dinner gathering at a local restaurant, Happy Hour and Friday Night Pool socials.
Working together as members of the Board of Directors or serving on committees to plan the many special events, such as the annual Holiday Party, Anniversary Celebration, Picnic in the Park, Amazing Race and Pub Quiz, also have forged special friendships that often extend beyond formal club activities.
As for finding a purpose, so many members have expressed the great sense of wellbeing they receive from being a part of the club’s deep commitment to giving back to the community by supporting various charitable organizations. Over the last two decades, beneficiaries of the club’s philanthropic endeavors have included the American Cancer Society, Aqua Fria Food Bank, The New Life Center for women and children escaping domestic violence, the Homeless Youth Connection (HYC) and the Country Fighter Foundation at Luke AFB.
During the current year, the group has once again embraced the HYC as its charity, focusing fundraising efforts on supporting homeless high school age youth, helping to empower them to reach their full potential and to become successful, contributing members of the Goodyear and surrounding communities. The beneficiaries of the PC Singles Club’s annual charitable campaign are selected each year by a vote of the membership. In addition to making personal contributions and supporting the 25/25/50 drawings at the monthly meetings, members donate their time and talents to organize special fundraisers throughout the year.
The meeting for this month, July, has been cancelled. Otherwise, the PC Singles meet monthly on the first Sunday of the month in the ballroom of the Tuscany Falls Clubhouse. Registration of new members begins at 2:15 p.m. Sign up for activities and events starts at 2:30 p.m., and a general membership meeting takes place at 3:00 p.m.
President Frank Rodgers runs a tight meeting so that by no later than 4:00 p.m., members can adjourn to the Long Drive Lounge to enjoy a lively social hour prior to moving on to dinner at a local restaurant.
