On April 19, in perhaps the windiest afternoon of the year to date, PCM9GA and PCL9GA held their annual 9-hole mixer event. A record of 172 members from the two associations participated in the event which was a four-person shotgun scramble played in three flights, one on each of the three Tuscany Falls courses. Ray Clements and his event management team had it all so well organized, including parking, check in and pairings, we were able to tee off a little early to try and beat the late afternoon gales which were estimated to reach 40 mph gusts. By the final hole the winds were steady at about 25 mph with higher gusts!
The conditions were such that very few teams broke par and not all greens were hit, so as to award Closest to the Pin (KTP) prizes. On each course the men had one KTP green and the ladies had the other.
The winning foursome on the Falls course with a score of 34, consisted of Jim Pucelik, Chuck Hendrickson, Keith Easley and Maureen Campbell. On the Palms course with a winning score of 35 were Mike Nadon, Jim Halbmaier, Ken Knox and Gail Hock. The winning team with a score of 34, drawing the short straw to play the Lakes course in this wind, were Joe Oliver, Gary Houser, Carolyn Koberg and Carolyn Nadon.
Closest to the pin (KTP) winners were Skip Butler, Bill Harrell, Gary Draus, Peggy Taylor and Char Jones.
The players all gathered in the Chianti Room after golf for refreshments, snacks and conviviality.
As in the past this is one of the most enjoyable events of the PCM9GA year. We gained new friendships and forged an even closer relationship with the PCL9GA with whom we share so many common values.
Special thanks to Brian and crew from Food and Beverage for great bar service, Jason Whitehill and Dave Vader our pros who guided us through the details and scoring, Monte Page for setting up the pairings and Mike D’Onofrio for managing the parking and pairing logistics.
We will do it again next spring!
