It’s spring and everything’s coming up music! PebbleCreek Singers are bursting with song as they diligently rehearse for the annual spring concert entitled, Rockin’ Rhythms. Tickets for the concert will go on sale Saturday, April 2 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. in the Renaissance Theatre. Tickets are $15 each and, for this concert only, individuals may purchase up to 10 tickets per person. The performances will be Wednesday, April 27 through Saturday, April 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the Renaissance Theatre.

Rockin’ Rhythms opens with the free-spirited song, Listen to the Music. This terrific music song was recorded by The Doobie Brothers back in 1972. The song’s message proclaims, “What the people need is a way to make ‘em smile—listen to the music”! Audiences are certain to be smiling all the way through this up-beat concert as they listen to the dynamic and diverse rhythmic musical numbers that Director Gail Kennedy has chosen for the program. Fond of time-tested standards from the Great American Songbook? This concert has them! Prefer memorable songs from the silver screen? You bet’cha, we have those too! Appreciate inspirational and gospel music? Absolutely, they’re included! Enjoy rock ‘n roll and pop classic tunes? Yep, we got ‘em! This phenomenal potpourri of musical selections will be performed by the full chorus, small ensembles and numerous soloists. The concert comes to a close with a Mark Hayes original song entitled, I Sing Out. This contemporary number teaches an inspiring lesson about the strength of song. “We sing out peace, we sing out hope, we sing out joy, we sing out love; from the very best part of who we are, we sing out!”

Don’t forget! Saturday, April 2 is the first day of ticket sales! Mark this date on your calendar and come to the Renaissance Theatre to get your reserved seat for this fantastic concert!

Showtime’s Damn Yankees on stage in April

Carrie Mataraza

America’s favorite sport, aka America’s game, Baseball, comes to the Renaissance Theatre in the form of classic musical comedy, Damn Yankees just as spring training season is winding up. Whether or not you are a baseball fan, you will love cheering for your home team, the Senators, as they go against the notable Yankees Monday, April 11 through Saturday, April 16 on our stage.

First day of ticket sales is Saturday, March 12 and you’d better be quick to get your seat in the bleachers because we have to have your help. We need you to root for the underdog Senators since a lot could happen even though it’s promised that your team will have the edge. That’s because Joe Boyd, long-suffering Senator fan, reached his wit’s end. He’s been so frustrated that his team is always behind that he’s struck a devilish deal with a certain, eccentric Mr. Applegate who guarantees him victory this season if, that is, Joe Boyd keeps his end of the bargain.

The timing of that deal could not have been better; magically an unknown young slugger, Joe Hardy, is discovered and joins the team during an otherwise lackluster summer. Young Joe is so talented that he moves the team’s standing up until (yay!) they are ready to compete with the Yankees for the pennant. But, of course, there is the inevitable jinx and a glitch and a complication so Mr. Applegate brings along Lola, one of his staff, to help insure the team’s success. You know about Lola: whatever Lola wants, Lola gets and the Senators have Heart — that counts for a lot. Will they get that winning home run? Will Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, Mo save the day—and himself in the bargain? A Man Doesn’t Know if Two Lost Souls will triumph.

It’s all up to you, PebbleCreekers, to come and fill the seats in the Renaissance ballpark. Cheer your way through the drama, hum along to some of the greatest songs from Broadway and enjoy the victory dance we hope will ensue.

Remember to mark your calendar: first day of ticket sales is in the Renaissance Theatre on Saturday, March 12 between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. and sales continue in the Eagle’s Nest Kiosk until the seats are sold out from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning.
