“The Adventures of Philip Marlowe Red Wind”
KT Tanner
Readers Theater presents this one act radio play written by Raymond Chandler on January 18, 19 and 20 at 5:30 p.m. in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom. Tickets are $20 per person and include the performance along with a fun meal of hamburgers, hot dogs, an ice cream station and a no-host bar. Tickets will be sold Saturday, December 3 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. in the Renaissance Theatre and the following Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Eagle’s Nest Kiosk.
As the action begins Detective Phillip Marlowe is having a drink in a bar across the street from his Los Angeles apartment. Outside the hot Santa Ana winds howl, blowing the heavy stained glass door open behind him. “It was hot—-boiling hot—-that night. I wanted to grab a beer and turn in early. So what happens? I get my beer but with it come a gunshot, a beautiful girl in trouble—and murder.”
Called Foley Artists, sound people skillfully and manually create sounds to set the scene increasing and decreasing the intensity so the actors’ voices can be heard. You’ll feel the excitement as the Foley Artists concentrate on the crucial timing of their sound effects. Live music is also used in the performance to enhance the story. Included in this production are a Burns and Allen skit and live commercials for products that you will remember.
Only 150 seats are available for each of these nights of fun and refreshment. Be sure to go early to the Renaissance Theatre Saturday, December 3 where tickets will be sold from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.
Roving Readers reaches out to community children
KT Tanner
The PC Players’ Roving Readers performed The Day the Crayons Quit, by Drew Daywalt and Oliver Jeffers, to first through third graders attending Barbara Robey, Palm Valley and Mabel Padgett Schools in the Litchfield Park Elementary School District. The story describes the frustration of crayons that are used so often they’re wearing down and of crayons that feel they’re just sitting in the box waiting to be used—-so the crayons decide to quit. Performing was Lila Garner as narrator and Barbara Risden, Keith Longley, Bev Buck, Laurie Rosenbloom, Neal Weckworth and KT Tanner as the crayons.
Several little artists spent many hours coloring the poster used to show these crayons that they are all important. The children worked tirelessly for several weeks. The students are delightfully receptive. Many of their grandparents live in PebbleCreek and they always request that we return with more stories.
If you are interested in participating in PC Players’ Roving Readers School Program, contact KT Tanner at [email protected]. We generally rehearse once a week for four to six weeks and our next performance will be early March 2017.
