Open Mic Night Club Wants to Highlight the Talented People of PebbleCreek!
Carrie Mataraza
PC Open Mic Night Club was started last spring by a group of very talented PebbleCreek (PC) performers who had a vision. They wanted to create a venue where residents would have an opportunity to showcase their talents and have fun doing it. Their ultimate goal was to support people who love to sing, play musical instruments, or do stand-up comedy and help them share their artistry in front of an audience of friends and neighbors.
The concept for PebbleCreek came together in early 2025 when PC resident and singer Patti Hall approached Dave Silverstein and Steve Jensen, both well-known and respected members of the local performing arts community, with the idea. They loved it, and just like that (almost!) a PC club was sanctioned and born. Patti and Dave are president and vice president of the club while Steve is the technical director and director of sound. The incredible Kathy Mitchell, Leslie Henson, and Elysa Luick also joined the board, bringing their flair for song and comedy.
Talk about hitting the ground running! The first Open Mic Night was held in May to a sold-out, enthusiastic crowd and it’s been a twice-a-month event in our community ever since.
All Creekers, including newcomers to our community and everyone who loves participating in the performing arts, are invited to join. If you sing, joke, play music, either solo or in a group, or do magic, we encourage you to share at Open Mic Night. You’ll find a warm welcoming group of like-minded folks supporting you and an enthusiastic audience ready to cheer you on.
Open Mic Night is held in the Chianti Room, a more intimate, easy-going setting than a larger stage, closer to the atmosphere of the first Open Mic nights in those early coffee house performances of the 1950s, where people could try out their material, perfect their act, and have fun with it all. Same in PebbleCreek. The format: there are 12 acts per evening here, each given 10 minutes behind the mic. We invite you to be one of them.
Mark your calendar. In November, Open Mic Night will be on Thursday, Nov. 6, and Monday, Nov. 24, in the Chianti Room. Looking ahead to December, a special holiday Open Mic will be in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom on Monday, Dec. 22.
One note: there is a cover charge of only $5 that is used to help defray the club’s expenses and contribute to the club’s equipment fund as currently club members are lending their own equipment (sound systems, keyboards, etc.). There are no advance reservations; tickets are sold right before each show. Just get in line in front of the entrance to Portofino’s to make your purchase. Easy, but don’t wait until the last few minutes! Shows sell out fast.
