PebbleCreek Musicians Present the Big Band’s Burst of Music XV

Susan Kice

After a two-year hiatus, the PebbleCreek Musicians are pleased to announce that there will indeed be a brand new Burst of Music XV presented by the PebbleCreek Big Band. If you’re keeping track, that means that there was not, nor will there be, a Burst of Music XIII or a Burst of Music XIV. The dates for Burst of Music XV are March 24, 25, and 26, 2022. Please make a note of these dates for future reference.

Rehearsals for this performance will begin Oct. 26, 2021, in the Renaissance Theater. If you are, or ever were, a musician and are interested in joining a talented group of fellow musicians, now is your chance. All instrumentalists are welcome and are encouraged to contact the director, Jeff Buda, for more information and/or to set up an audition at [email protected] or 623-533-6176. Throughout the years, Burst of Music performances have always brought great music to appreciative PebbleCreek audiences, and they have been rewarded with many accolades.

Even though the PebbleCreek Musicians are looking forward to beginning their rehearsals in the theater in October, there remains at this time one monumental stumbling block. They need a place to rehearse now. They have met all the CDC requirements for social distancing and have put all necessary schematics in place per state regulations. They just need a venue. If you know of a place that might be conducive to a band practicing or have any ideas whatsoever that might work for these guys, please contact Jeff (contact info above).

Watch for upcoming news and announcements as March 2022 gets closer.

If March 2022 seems far in the future, the Musicians have exciting news to share. It’s been said that you can find anything on YouTube! Well, beginning Feb. 1, 2021, you can enjoy seeing, or seeing again as the case may be, PebbleCreek’s own Burst of Music X (part 1) on YouTube! Even if you were privileged to see Burst of Music X in person a few years ago, to see it now will almost be like seeing it for the first time, and from the comfort of your own cozy abode! Go to youtu.be/XL8K2ipvUGs to view the performance.

Be sure to check the PebbleCreek egroup on Feb. 15 for the starting date and link to part 2 of Burst of Music X. Once the shows air, they will be available indefinitely.

Virtual Nights at the Renaissance Theater in February

Laurie Farquhar

What do an Italian opera star and an American burlesque queen have in common? They are both part of the Virtual Nights at the Renaissance Theater series in February.

Again this month, ShowTime and PC Players are presenting videos of some of their best productions via free Zoom webinars while the Renaissance Theater is closed because of the pandemic. Here is the line-up for February:

Friday Feb. 12: Lend Me a Tenor. A madcap comedy of mistaken identities when an internationally renown and fiery-tempered Italian singer arrives in Cleveland, Ohio to make his debut with the local opera and promptly goes missing.

Friday Feb. 26: Gypsy. An American musical about the dreams and efforts of one powerhouse of a woman to get her two daughters into show business … even if eventually it is to strip.

The curtain goes up at 7 p.m., but it is even more fun if you log in at 6:45 p.m. for the BackStage Talk pre-show. This is when some of the cast and crew members from the production share a few anecdotes about the challenges and/or unexpected things that happened backstage. While the video is showing, be sure to use the webinar’s chat feature, which lets you “talk” (chats are in writing) with your friends who are also watching the video.

A link for each webinar will be available in the Monday PebbleNews, on the HOA website under Club Announcements, and in emails sent to the PebbleCreek Egroup on Sundays and Wednesdays. On show night, just click the link in any one of these locations. You will be asked to enter your name and email address and then you are in. It really is that easy. There is no need to download an app.

We all miss being able to go to the Renaissance Theater, but these webinars are your chance to enjoy performances by some of PebbleCreek’s talented actors, singers, and dancers. If you are new to our community, here is a sample of what you can expect once the theater doors reopen. Is it possible you might want to try out the footlights yourself?

PebbleCreek Singers Happenings

Diane Piehl

We must keep busy during difficult times. So, during what would have been our concert dates, Dec. 2-5, 2020, The PC Singers board created a daily quiz just for fun! The membership embraced the idea and many participated in the daily quiz, enjoying a diversion from our new normal. Amazingly, most participants were spot on with their responses. Of course, a daily prize of a lovely poinsettia was the winning reward. On the final day, no winners, just fun in coming up with alphabetical Christmas word thoughts. Oh, and elves visited the Singers on the last day as well with special treats.

Hope you had an opportunity to view the PC Singers 2019 concert via webinar on Dec. 10.

We continue to keep in contact with our membership via quiz ideas, ask if they are practicing spring concert music with an eye on Christmas 2021 and spring 2022, and share good news and not such good news when we hear about it. We’ll soon be having our much-delayed annual meeting, after which new officers will begin their duties July 1, 2021. Online and Zoom are our best friends these days, but aren’t we glad we have such a great way to stay connected.

Whether you sing high notes, low notes, or in-between notes, PC Singers is looking for you. Be a part of our musical family as we gear up for the 2021 season. Contact Nancy Gustafson at 623-215-3292 for more information about your place in the chorus.

The PebbleCreek Singers send happy 2021 greetings to each of you!
